Empowering Rural Women through Community Mobilization

In the rural district of India, Karnataka, SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION has been working to empower women through community mobilization. The organization has established a network of self-help groups (SHGs) comprising women from local villages, who come together to discuss their concerns, share their experiences, and develop strategies for addressing the challenges they face. With support from SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION, these SHGs have been able to access government schemes such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which have helped to improve their socio-economic status. For example, Priya Sharma, a beneficiary from a local village, reported that her SHG was able to secure ₹5 lakhs in funding from the government to establish a community-based enterprise. According to the Census 2026, women in rural India face significant barriers to accessing education and healthcare, with 23% of women aged 15-49 years reporting that they had never attended school. However, through SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION's community mobilization efforts, women like Anita Devi from India have been able to take on leadership roles in their communities, advocating for their rights and promoting the interests of their fellow women. As MANJUNATHSWAMY KAVYA, Director of SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION, notes, 'Community mobilization is a powerful tool for empowering women and promoting social change. By working together, women can overcome the challenges they face and create a better future for themselves and their families.'
