In the rural district of India, Karnataka, SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION has been working to establish and support SHGs, enabling women to access finance, build skills, and take on leadership roles in their communities. The organization has established a network of SHGs comprising women from local villages, who come together to discuss their concerns, share their experiences, and develop strategies for addressing the challenges they face. For example, Anita Devi, a beneficiary from a local village, reported that her SHG was able to secure ₹2 lakhs in funding from a local bank, which helped to establish a community-based enterprise. According to the National Commission for Women, SHGs have been instrumental in promoting women's empowerment and socio-economic development in India, with over 3 million SHGs established across the country. However, there are also challenges to consider, such as the need for capacity building and support. As MANJUNATHSWAMY KAVYA, Director of SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION, notes, 'SHGs have the potential to transform the lives of women and their families, but we need to ensure that they are sustainable and effective.' Through its work with SHGs, SRI MUNESHWARA SWAMY FOUNDATION has helped to empower women and promote socio-economic development in communities across Karnataka.
